This past year, almost 900 children across Saskatchewan experienced cultures and languages from around the world all without having to leave their classroom. These students were participating in the Mini Language Learning Lessons Program. It is a program designed to give students in the regular school system the chance to learn about a country, a language and a culture that they might not normally have access to. Classrooms are matched with heritage language teachers who provide 8 one-hour lessons on their language and culture. In addition to learning the language, students get the opportunity to learn and try the different crafts, foods, dances, and music of the country.

The program is offered with the support of the Public and Catholic School Boards and in partnership with several regional multicultural organizations that help SOHL coordinate the program.

Feedback from the program has been overwhelmingly positive. In an evaluation of the project, 95% of students enjoyed the lessons and would like to have another heritage language teacher visit their classroom.
